OK, well here I am, writing my very first blog. I never had, nor never will consider myself a writer. I just felt the need to jot down a few thoughts before they disappear.
I titled this page The Book To Eli for, you guessed it, Elijah. My son. He is playing here in front of me and I thought "What If?" Do I need to explain? Hope not. I think all parents at one time or another thought what I am thinking. There is a TV show titled How I Met Your Mother. Mom and I watch it regularly. We started a few years late so it's kinda like playing catch up. I get the feeling the narrator is telling his children the story about the events that lead to meeting their mother. But where is mom? Did she die? Is that why he made this show? I know it's only a TV show, but it got me to thinking.
OH, back to the title, The Book To Eli. While Mom was pregnant with Eli, there was a movie in theaters called The Book Of Eli. Some people asked if that was how we got your name. NO!! We, well I should say your mom picked your name. Your are named from the prophet Elijah. I got to pick your name if you would have been a girl. Samantha Grace.
Today I listen to a podcast of Andy Stanley sermon of last Sunday where he was talking about Matthew. Matthew was considered to be the low of the low. He was a tax collector. Tax collectors were considered to be worse than sinners to God. Jesus asked Matthew to follow Him. And he did. What is the point? It is not the righteous that Jesus is asking to follow, but the ones furthest from Him. Jesus did not ask Matthew to do anything other than follow Him.
Son, if I can only pass along one word of wisdom, it to follow Jesus. Allow Him to enter your heart. You are a blessing to your mom and me. You are a gift from God.
I'm off to play with my gift before bed time.
I love you very much.
